This actually does raise an interesting point about the difference in perception between men and women. I'm not sure if people would respond the same way to the relationship between fem!Sherlock and fem!John, if only because women are thought of as being more emotional and therefore can get away with being closer to each other without people suspecting that affection to be sexual in nature. A lot of female friendships can be more demonstrative without arousing the same suspicion because that's how people expect women to act.

I really don't think anyone would assume they were gay if they were reversed. Also I think that male!Irene would be perceived differently because I find that a lot of people I talk to consider male homosexuality as more "serious" than female homosexuality. I've met a few people who say they're okay with lesbians but not gay men, or that they think homosexuality in women is more natural because women are more inherently attractive. These people are clearly morons who can't imagine a world not seen from their perspective with their personal preferences, but it doesn't change the fact that they would be received differently.

... Sorry, I kind of ranted there, didn't I? The picture is awesome. I love the colour on their faces and male!Irene's earrings and jawline. And their noses. They have awesome noses.
