My Mother Told Me

When I was little my mother would tell me about long long ago in ancient Asia where the animals would talk and wear silk and drink soju and have wars and if you weren't careful, a fox disguised as a beautiful woman or a goblin dressed in furs would trick you and fairies would help those in need. And back then I lived in a temple, surrounded by my grandfather's cinnabar caligraphy and inkstones and huge golden statues and incense and gongs and bowing old ladies so I kind of believed her.

And today I recovered from my three-and-a-half day sickness and times myself to see what I could draw in an hour. I had been typing up a small collection of my mother's stories so I had Asia on the brain.

This is a fairy. She's gonna slice you up.

I usually hate everything in my sketchbook, but this one's a rare exception.

1 hr, 8 1/2 X 11 sketchbook, 1 2b pencil, two bottles of Gatorade and one can chicken noodle soup.
